Jennifer King joined the Kansas Department of Corrections as the Executive Director of Public Affairs in January of 2024.
A native of Arkansas, she brings decades of experience in media relations, legislative affairs, and communications initiatives to the organization. Prior to her current position, she was the public affairs manager for Georgia-Pacific Crossett and spent more than 15 years as a civilian public affairs officer for the U.S. Army. Her duty assignments included the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Center in Vicksburg, Miss.; the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Adelphi, Md.; the U.S. Army Materiel Command at Fort Belvoir, Va., and Redstone Arsenal, Ala.; and the 405th Army Field Support Brigade in Kaiserslautern, Germany, where she spent six years managing all public affairs activities for the brigade and battalions in multiple European countries.
She holds a Bachelor of Journalism/Public Relations from the University of Louisiana-Monroe and graduated through the university’s Collegiate Honors Program. She also took courses at the Haus Rissen Hamburg International Institute for Politics and Economics in Hamburg, Germany, during her assignment in Europe.
