Inmate Communications

Resident Mail

The Kansas Department of Corrections will not accept any item mailed into a correctional facility other than letters or photographs. Residents may purchase postage only through their facility’s canteen. The Department does not allow a resident to receive stamps.

Please note that any incoming or outgoing mail other than legal, official or privileged mail may be inspected or read at any time in accordance with KAR 44-12-601.

Incoming resident mail should be addressed as follows:

Remember to include the resident’s KDOC registration number with the resident’s full name in the address of the correspondence or the mail will not be delivered. The envelope also must contain the sender’s name and address as well or the letter will not be delivered.

You may check a resident’s location and status on the Department’s Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository (KASPER). Facility mailing addresses are available from the facilities index.

Resident Telephone

Customer Service Information

Residents are permitted telephone privileges to make collect/pre-paid calls. Residents are not permitted to receive telephone calls. Every new number that a resident requests be added to the resident’s approved call list must be verified and activated before the resident is allowed to call.

Residents have access to coinless telephones at various times throughout the day during yard periods. Each living unit also has specified periods when residents are allowed to make phone calls during the evening hours.

Please note that Resident telephone calls, except for attorney calls, may be subject to monitoring and recording in accordance with KAR 44-2-102 (c).

The provider for resident telephone service is ICS Corrections, Inc.. The customer service phone number for called parties to establish a pre-paid account is1-888-506-8407 or accounts may be set up online at no cost at www.icsolutions.com . Residents cannot call cell phones unless a prepaid account is established with the phone company. This may be done by the family by calling 1-888-506-8407

In the event of a verifiable emergency such as a serious illness or death in the family, you may call the facility. During regular business hours, you will be forwarded to the resident counselor’s office where you can relay the emergency message, and the counselor will speak with the resident. After hours or on weekends and holidays, verified emergencies will be passed on to the resident at the earliest possible time.

Chain dialing, 3-way calling, call forwarding, and/or dialing extra digits is not permitted.

Resident Electronic Messaging

KDOC Families and Friends

To communicate with your loved one through their tablet account, create and fund a ViaPath Technologies (formerly GTL) account. Please https://www.gettingout.com/kansas-doc/ or download the app on your smartphone to create an account. (See below for “Setting Up Your Account.”)
Once you deposit funds ($10.00 minimum required) on your account, you will be able to send messages, photos or a 30-second video message to your loved one. The cost will be deducted from your ViaPath account.
Electronic money deposits to a resident’s trust account cannot be done through ViaPath. This service will continue to be made through Access Corrections.
In addition, you will have the ability to add funds to your loved one’s tablet account electronically. There is no fee to add funds through ViaPath.

Friends and Family Pricing

Electronic Message: $0.25 per message
Electronic Photo: $0.25 per photo
30-Second Video Attachment: $1.75 per video

KDOC Residents

Funds applied to a KDOC resident’s ViaPath account by family and friends will allow him/her to send messages, print messages/photos and enjoy entertainment content.
The ViaPath account can only be used for these services. Commissary and debit phone time purchasing are processed through a separate request on the tablet NOT using ViaPath account funds.
Electronic money deposits to a resident’s trust account cannot be done through ViaPath. This service will continue to be made available through Access Corrections.
Video visits are handled by a separate vendor and not available through the ViaPath tablet. More information is available on the KDOC webpage.

**Please note that only entertainment content will be charged a per minute rate of $0.04 (standard content) and $0.06 (premium content).

The following costs will be deducted from resident’s ViaPath account funds:

Electronic Message: $0.25 per message
Print Email: $0.35 per printed page
Print Attachment/Photo: $1.00 per printed page
Entertainment Content: $0.04/minute (standard content) and $0.06/minute (premium content)

Setting Up Your Account

There are (2) options for setting up and accessing your ViaPath account. Please note that only one ViaPath account needs to be established to send messages and deposit funds.

Kansas Package Program

Kansas Package Program is a catalog that residents and family/friends can order monthly.
The resident can receive a $75.00 order once a month, that does include a $5 shipping and
handling fee. The catalogs offer a range of groceries and personal hygiene products. There
is a new catalog every 6 months.

All residents that are level 2 or 3 and not in restrictive housing are eligible. The Package
Program orders are in addition to the canteen orders that residents have access to order,
based on housing and level.
